Do you have the odds to call with a gutshot?

A gutshot has 4 outs, about 16% equity on the flop and 8% on the turn.

4 Outs
16% Equity on the flop
8% Equity on the turn

Only four cards complete a gutshot, so your equity is thin: about 16% on the flop and 8% on the turn. On direct odds you can only call small bets, around a third of the pot or less. Calling bigger bets needs strong implied odds, like stacks deep enough to get paid when you hit.

On direct pot odds, 4 outs lets you profitably call a flop bet up to about 24% of the pot. Deeper stacks and implied odds push that higher.

Quick tip: A gutshot is about 16% on the flop. Only call small bets without implied odds.
