What is every hand worth on an A 7 2 rainbow flop?

An ace on a dry board changes everything above it and almost nothing below it. A 7 2 rainbow has no flush draws and no made straights, but the ace at the top demotes every other pocket pair in one stroke. Pocket kings walked into this flop as an overpair and walked out as second pair. That single demotion is the whole story of the texture.

The winners are aces in every form. Pocket aces have the top set. AK, AQ, and AJ have top pair with kickers that dominate the random aces they will run into. Even A2 offsuit, a fold in most seats, has flopped top and bottom pair and performs like a monster. Below the ace, sevens and deuces made their sets, and 72 offsuit once again finds itself with two pair on a board built from its own junk.

Kings and queens still beat a random hand comfortably, because a random hand usually has nothing, but every ace in the opposing range now beats them, and aces are exactly the cards people keep. The board looks harmless, which is what makes the error expensive: it feels like an overpair even after it has stopped being one.
