What are the pot odds on a two-thirds pot bet?
A two-thirds pot bet needs about 28.6% equity to call, roughly 2.5-to-1.
One-card direct odds assume you fold after a miss and pay no further bets. Use by-the-river odds when this call guarantees both cards, such as an all-in or a guaranteed free river.
Two-thirds pot is a popular modern bet size because it pressures draws without overcommitting. You need just under 29% to call, and with chips behind no single draw has that on the next card. Flush draws and open-enders call on implied odds, and a gutshot alone usually cannot.
Worked example: the pot is 90 on the flop and your opponent bets 60. You call 60 to win the 90 already there plus the 60 bet, 150 in total. 60 to win 150 is 2.5-to-1, and 60 divided by 210, the pot after your call, is 28.6%.
A flush draw hits the turn 19.1% of the time and an open-ender 17.0%, well short of 28.6%. To make the call pay, the flush draw needs to win about 1.7 times the bet more on later streets when it hits, and the open-ender about 2.4 times. Only a combo draw at 31.9% has the direct price. All-in is different: a flush draw at 35.0% and an open-ender at 31.5% clear it, while a gutshot at 16.5% and two overcards at 24.1% do not. This size charges every bare draw a losing direct price while keeping it in the pot to be charged again on the turn.
Quick tip: Two-thirds pot sits between half and full: about 29% equity needed.
