How do you play eight seven suited?

Eight seven suited is a strong suited connector you open from late position, because it flops straights, flushes, and big draws that can win huge pots.

Seats that open it

Open it freely from late position, and mix it in from earlier seats too, the way the Balanced baseline does. Its whole value is implied: it rarely makes top pair, but when it connects it makes straights, flushes, and big draws that get paid off by overpairs and top pair. The deeper the stacks and the better your position, the more it is worth, because you get to realize those draws and win the big pots when they come in.

This hand opens for a raise from every position, including under the gun.

Common mistake: Playing it out of position and in small pots. A suited connector that cannot realize its draws, or that never gets paid when it hits, is just a slow way to bleed chips.

Quick tip: Deep stacks and position are the whole point. It flops big or it folds.
