Is ace ten suited a good hand?

Ace ten suited is a strong hand you open from every seat, with the nut flush draw, broadway straight potential, and top pair all working in its favor.

Open it from anywhere and use it as a re-raise against opponents who open wide. It makes the nut flush, it makes broadway with a king queen jack board, and the ace gives it a useful blocker when you put in a re-raise. Against a tight four-bet it is a fold, since it is dominated by the better aces and outflipped by the pairs.

This hand opens for a raise from every position, including under the gun.

Common mistake: Overvaluing top pair with a ten kicker in a big pot. When the money goes in on an ace-high board, the ten kicker is often the loser.

Quick tip: Nut flush draws and broadway straights are the upside. The ten kicker is the part to be careful with.
