Frequently asked questions
What beats what in poker? +
From strongest to weakest: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, and high card. A hand beats any hand below it on that list, regardless of the cards' ranks.
What is the highest hand in poker? +
The royal flush: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten all of the same suit. It is the best possible hand and cannot be beaten, only tied by a royal flush in another suit.
Does a flush beat a straight? +
Yes. A flush (five cards of one suit) is rarer than a straight (five cards in sequence), so it ranks higher and wins.
What is the lowest hand in poker? +
High card. If no player makes a pair or better, the hand with the single highest card wins, comparing the next-highest cards as a tiebreaker.
Do suits matter in poker hand rankings? +
No suit outranks another. Suits only matter for making a flush. When two players have the same hand type, the card ranks decide the winner, not the suits.
